Today's reading: Psalms 32-35 (33-36) "Sin is the oracle of the wicked in the depths of his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. He sees himself with too flattering an eye to detect and detest his guilt." (35/36:1-2) This is often the situation in which we find ourselves. It can be very easy to see the sins of others. We can spend hours detecting and detesting the guilt that we perceive in our brother and sister Christians, let alone our enemies! Yet this should not be so. This is one of the reasons that we pray the prayer of St. Ephraim throughout the period of the Great Lent, in which we ask God to remove the veil of ignorance of our own sins. "Yes, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own faults and not to judge my brother, for you are blessed to the ages of ages. Amen." |
