Father Vasilios was born to Demetrios and Maria Pliakas, of Athens, Greece, in the early 1960s. He attended Eastern Michigan University where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in late 1980s and a master's degree in Technology Management and Assessment in early 1990s. In the late 1990s, he completed a master's degree in Business Administration at the University of Phoenix. In 1990, he married Kyriake Savvides of Paphos, Cyprus. They have two adult children, Maria and Cara-Charalambia.
Father Vasilios has more than thirty years of serving in technical and managerial capacities in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Finance and Facilities Management in both the public and private sector in Healthcare and Higher Education. He has been with the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor for more than twenty years serving in various technology management roles. Presvytera Kyriake is a Behavioral Psychologist and currently serves as the Clinical Director at a Closed Head Injury Rehabilitation Facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Father Vasilios and his family have been active members of the St. Nicholas, Ann Arbor community for over thirty years. He has served in various positions on the parish council, taught in the Church School, assisted at the chant stand, assisted in the altar, and has offered his services to the St. Nicholas parish through his work during the implementation of the iconography as well as other initiatives. In 2008, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, Fr. Vasilios enrolled in the Program for the Diaconate at Holy Cross School of Theology and finished his studies in 2011. At the request and direction of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, he has also completed a set of graduate courses at Sacred Heart Major Seminary from 2010 through 2012. He was ordained to the Diaconate on March 30, 2014 and to the Priesthood on June 20, 2015 by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas. He currently serves as priest with a lay vocation for the Metropolis of Detroit. |
