Fr. Michael Marcantoni was born to Puerto Rican parents on Charleston Navy Base in October of 1980. During college he Enlisted in the Army Reserves. He graduated from the Defense Language Institute Basic Arabic Course in May 2002 as well as completing his Bachelor's degree that same year. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom from November 2002-August 2003. It was during this deployment that he first felt called to the Priesthood. After the war he took a job as a contract linguist in support of ongoing military operations. The job took him first to Mainz, Germany in January 2004 where he met Presbytera Katherine. Presbytera Katherine, at the time, was a student at the Johannes Gutenberg University. She is from Arequipa, Peru, they married in 2006. In August 2007 Father and Presbytera relocated to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology to pursue Seminary studies. During their time at Seminary they welcomed the birth of their son Matias in December 2009. Presbytera also continued her studies through Hellenic College. In May 2011 Father and Presbytera graduated, he with his Masters of Divinity from Holy Cross and she with her Bachelor's from Hellenic College. That same month (May 2011) Father was ordained a Deacon by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta and was assigned to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Raleigh, NC to work with Fr. Paul Christy. On July 17, 2011 Deacon Michael was ordained a Priest by Metropolitan Alexios.
In July of 2012 the family grew with the birth of their daughter Andrea. In March 2013 Father Michael was assigned to Clearwater, FL to work as an Assistant Priest at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. In December 2015 Father Michael was assigned as Proistamenos to the Holy Spirit Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester, NY. In his spare time Father enjoys working out and spending time with his family. He speaks Spanish fluently and is also skilled in Greek, German and Arabic. |
