The St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine is now accepting submissions for the 2017 Annual Essay Contest, which is open to teens age 13-19.
Teens are asked to prepare a 1000-word essay addressing this year's theme - showcasing their understanding of what happened in 1777 regarding the survivors of the New Smyrna Colony, why they are remembered in St. Augustine, the significance of the St. Photios Shrine being built in the Avero House, and why it is called a living memorial.
Submissions will be accepted through December 31, 2017. Results will be posted February 1, 2018. Prizes are awarded to the top three essays: 1st Place = $500, 2nd Place = $250, 3rd Place = $100
Essays should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Click the flyer to download the information to share. For more information, email the St. Photios Shrine or call 904.829.8205.
